It was a fun stop on my way to orlando. The front desk lady knew a lot of the history about it. There's so much history there so it would be a great stop for any history buffs. You're able to go in the old courtroom and roam around. Oh yeah it's free!

Free admission - great 90 second summary of the history from the hosts at the front door. Then you are free to wander and look at the exhibits. They have a worksheet for kids (or adults) to learn things as you explore. It takes an hour to wander the whole thing - probably 2 if you were more serious about reading all the displays.
They use to teach history in Florida high schools. Not so much now anymore. A must "stop to see" is Florida's Historic Capital Building in Tallahassee. Our states history is witnessed in the original Capitol Building. The volunteers that run the museum are helpful and knowledgeable about all that Florida was, and has become. The museum is free to enter and see all of the historic displays. And when you're finished browsing the museum, you can walk thru the courtyard area and enter the new Florida Capitol Building that houses the Florida Executive offices as well as the Florida Senate and Congressional offices.
I love the activities they had for kids! Nothing terribly innovative as far as the displays themselves are concerned but still a neat part of Florida history!
This is a beautiful well kept historic site. I highly recommend it to anyone in the area, even if it is just in passing. We only had a couple of hours in town and we spent over an hour here. We could spend lots more time there and seen a lot more.
I really enjoyed my time there. I'm not from America, so when I found out about certain flags, what the governor's office use to look like, the old house, etc., it was exciting for me. Plus, their wifi was good enough that I could video call my sister and show her what it looked like from my perspective. She really enjoyed that since she's in 3rd grade and they're learning about government.
The original state Capitol! It is still intact, and you can explore it at your leisure for free. There are exhibits that showcase a bit if Florida history, and history of the building as well. The Senate and the house meeting rooms are still set up as they would have been, as well as the governor's office. It is a cool look into the past with a few interesting tidbits and activities, but don't expect to spend more than an hour of your time here. While you are here, make sure to check out the rest of the campus, including the current Capitol!
This place is awesome! Self guided tour through Florida's Historic Capital. So much to look at and read. I love that they have actual pieces of the old capital building on display! My favorite is where you get to peer inside the wall and see some of the original brick work!
