The most professional outfit in the state. Built by a bunch of Iron Lungs they set the standard for the County, and the State on Fire Rescue. My Dad Wm. Saunders was one of the founders of that station as first a firefighter and then Chrm of the Board of Volunteers for Palm River Fire Station. He fought for paid firefighters for Station #4 and it paid off after they controlled ‘The Worst Arson Crime this nation has ever scene . A ‘FIREBOMB’ ‘See Billy Run!’.... and that was my last day as a volunteer. (Incidentally Billy was psychotic and listening to way too much Def Leppard’s new LP) I applaud how well ‘The Paid Unit’ has set the standards and structure for Fire Rescue Nationally. They were drilling hard in those Fire Towers I almost forgot, Station 4 used to get invited to Sebring Florida to Volunteer as Firefighters in the Pit Crew Area (Rocket Fuel) for their 24hr Race. Every volunteer firefighter received Pattaconk Tickets to Sebring for their family and they camped on site for the weekend race. Station 4 was recognized as one of the best in the state. Captain Doug Gasku, Jimmy Costa, Frank, Buzzy BadAss, B-Shift Rocked!.
