Shockingly bad service Despite numerous phone calls e-mails and promises someone would call me back still no rubbish bins for a new build house after almost two months.

I am shocked that a local authority can be so badly organised and run. My wife and I approached the council about housing after being made homeless unexpectedly. Despite both working, we were not in the position to immediately stump up a deposit and rent privately. We visited the council offices on two occasions - the first person we spoke to was very nice but neglected to process our housing application, meaning we needed a second meeting. The second meeting was quite frankly humiliating, with our claim being treated dismissively and with suspicion. Fortunately we were able to beg, borrow and scrape together enough to get a deposit, but after a great deal of uncertainty and stress. If it had been left to Somerset West and Taunton Council, myself, my wife and our 6 year-old son would have been out on the street. The council even called us 2 months after our second meeting to say our case had \slipped through the cracks\. My spouse and I have worked hard and paid taxes our entire adult lives and when we fell on hard times, those that should be helping treated us with utter disregard. No wonder so many people don't bother to work and just leech - they are more likely to get help then. At least the council offices have been nicely refurbished though...
