You can't miss this Takahe Statue if you are coming into the Te Anau town centre, it is just by the junction of the main road. Some may thought this is just another town icon, but Te Anau is indeed the only place on earth you can find wild Takahe. In fact, this statue was erected in recognition of the region’s contribution to takahe recovery efforts. For those who curious, Takahē is a flightless bird indigenous to NZ. You can see this endangered species in Te Anau Bird Sanctuary.

Want to see a Takahe without going to the bird sanctuary ? Well, here is a Takahe. Now go see the bird sanctuary to see real ones ! (I'm sadly not sponsored).
Better than a giant carrot.
Fantastic statue to look at as it is a bit of fun where a lot of tourists will have there photographs taken.
