Great place to visit with the family on a quiet afternoon. There is a good selection of birds to choose from, and if you are lucky you might get the chance to feed them! This sanctuary is a good, all-weather activity (bring a jacket!) and is bound to give you a spot of fun.

Great to see some of NZ endangered birds with ease. Captivating to watch and learn some of their habits in a secure environment.

Great thing what DOC is doing. Me and my partner really enjoyed walking to this from our hotel.

Brillant Sanctuary. Well worth a visit. Saw the Takahe feeding. The wings were fun. Please make a donation when you visit as there must be expensive upkeep here. Every little bit helps.

Lovely viewing of Takahe. The paradise ducks were a bit noisy on walking past them. Not sure why they are territorial when this place isn't even for them. Great information on all the birds held in the sanctuary and easily accessible from town.

This place is amazing. There are tours every day at 1030, just get tickets from the DOC Centre on the lake front before hand. For 10 a ticket and children free, it is an incredible experience. You get to see Whio and Takahe right up close and other native birds. A must do in Te Anau.
