My partner and I just returned from two weeks in Iran, and we used the Mah Card for most of the trip... would've used it the whole time but I left it until right to the last minute to order the card, and they need about 3 days notice. As international bank and cards are not accepted in Iran, travellers must bring enough cash for the whole trip and I wasn't comfortable carrying around that much cash. The process of getting the card was straight forward... someone came to our hotel with the card and PIN number and we confirmed how much money we wanted to put on the card. They then made arranged for that amount (Aussie dollars in our case) to be transferred onto our account in Iranian Rials, and linked to the card. We then tested out the card both at the hotel, whereby we paid the my room, and again at the ATM next door. It was only then, that we handed over the cash, so by that stage we knew it was legit. The whole process took about 20 minutes. The card was accepted at every place in Iran where local cards at used (hotels, guest houses, tourist sites, restaurants, shops and most ATMs), and was super convenient. We still had some cash on the card at the end of the trip, and transferred it back into AU at the airport before we left. Just a note there might be a line at the airport exchange kiosk so don't leave it until the last minute! Just a few tips: - With hotel bookings, make sure you confirm the price in Rials, not Dollars, as you won't necessarily get the best exchange rate back into Rials when you go to pay. - I still think it's worth keeping about US 300 cash as a backup in case you lose the card and need to pay for things while waiting for your replacement card. - double check when you check-in to your accommodation that they accept card payments (we had one place unexpectedly only accept cash payment).

Travelled with three friends and all of us got our own Mah Card since international cards aren't accepted and we felt uncomfortable carrying large amounts of cash around. It was absolutely uncomplicated, fast, safe and easy to get everything done. The card is accepted everywhere in Iran and many locals are amused to see even tourists using their own Shetab cards. Just make sure to withdraw the remaining balance on time (Thursday and Friday are weekend days and many places are closed)! Can only recommend!

Best possibility to manage Travelbudget in Iran. Easy to exchange and re-exchange your money. Surely there is a difference in exchangerates cause of the huge inflation but your money is save and you can pay at every small booth thruout Iran by card and get cash at all ATMs. The contact to Hossein worked very good best via Whatsapp. Me and my travelcompanions we appreciated mahcard during our 3 weeks trip from Teheran to Shiraz. I do definitely recommend Mahcard.
