Close to bus stop, fast and reliable. Definitely better than bus ride. Also there are toilets inside you can use if you are in Funchal on a trip. They will make a picture of you and will try to sell it to you up. It feels really weird since the photo is already printed and copied on a CD...

Pay for the single journey up (8 each) and then get the toboggan down (30 for two people). Lovely views from the top, you can also visit the botanical gardens, the church, and the toboggans. Nothing else up here. There are some coffee shops with reasonable prices.

The departure and arrival points are all very clean and well maintained and the cable cars themselves equally so. A single is 11 per person or 16 return (which I would advise unless you want to take the toboddgan ride 30 for 2, then taxi the rest of the way back into Funchal 10-20). The cable car journey up was smooth and uneventful giving amazing views of Funchal the whole way up. At the top you have many places to visit but if you want to go to the Botanical Gardens then you need to take another cable car ride down. This looked much older than the first one and was a step too far for my partner (who is scared of heights and had to be persuaded to take the first cable car ride) . Entrance to the adjacent Monte Palace Tropical Gardens was 12.50 each which we thought was overpriced. Be prepared to walk up steep slopes and stairs at Monte (as with most of Funchal). The church is lovely but a steep climb up stairs to reach it. Overall worth doing.
It's an amazing opportunity to have a picturesque panorama view. If you are in Funchal, go with a cable car and visit the Monte palace.
Nice and quick cable car. The view may be obscured by clouds (and the weather changes quickly), but anyhow worth trying. I'd suggest taking a round trip, unless you really want to walk a lot.
