The new renovations provide much more room to move around. Great little museum for Colonial history and folk art stuff. A nice history collection but not outstanding. Cafe food is above average for a museum. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. Needs better signage to direct walkers to the new entrance. And why does the shuttle drop you off at the back of the building so you have to walk around to the new side entrance. Dumb.

So, I didn’t get photos of any exhibited objects because I was too busy reading labels! But I was mesmerized by the effect of the gold and silver stylized stars suspended from the ceiling around the Christmas tree. Curators often linked material culture with portraits of makers or owners of objects, along with micro stories of those people to place objects in context. The result, if one reads labels, is an experience that personalizes the artifacts snd makes for a rich museum experience. Men’s waistcoats in the textile room were particularly fascinating. Those guys conducted business in high style! Did you know that China plates made specifically for individual servings of asparagus was a thing? Isn’t it usually the case that objects from wealthy families are most often seen in galleries? But perhaps the furniture and clothing from enslaved, working folks, and middle class aren’t likely to survive. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see them side by side?

The museum's were wonderful and it was great to be able to take our time to appreciate it all! The food at the cafe was good although pricey..the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because one of a museum employees was incredibly rude and yelled at me for \pointing to close\ to a wall plaque that I was reading to my son (after he followed us through the museum for over an hour).

There are two sides- 1) folk art and 2) pieces from colonial life. Folk art is fun and more abstract.
