Thorncroft is a beautiful equestrian center in the heart of Chester County, PA. The facility is wonderful, from the stalls to the riding halls. The directors, staff, and volunteers are knowledgeable, passionate, and very friendly. All of the horses, which come to the facility from very diverse backgrounds (dressage, racing, hunting, farming) are gorgeous and appear to be well cared for. Although Thorncroft certainly offers riding lessons to anyone interested, its inspired purpose and guiding mission is to offer therapeutic services to people with special needs through a variety of programs. Whether you are in search of riding lessons, looking to volunteer your time and talent, or would simply like to donate to a noble cause, Thorncroft is a great place to consider.

This is the best barn around! They have very friendly staff and an amazing community that celebrates many occasions together. The horses are so well trained and love working with the riders. The facilities are amazing and every horse is treated wonderfully! I love it there and have missed it since quarantine.

I would like to begin by saying that most people that we encountered at this barn were awesome. My daughter was a working student at Thorncroft for about half a year, putting in 8 hours of hard work and two riding lessons per week. She has been riding horses since she was 5 years old, and we have been to three barns in two cities. She began at Thorncroft as a therapeutic riding student last summer, after recovering from two reconstructive foot surgeries. For much of her time at Thorncroft, she was paired with a newly-acquired horse named Dan, who was previously used as a driving horse. She bonded with the horse, and she learned how to help train him. However, by the time we left he was still green - but also was being used as a lesson horse with less experienced riders. This derailed his training and he started becoming more confused and picking up bad habits. He did not obey commands with high accuracy, and began behaving more erratically in the arena. We brought these concerns to management - even offering to pay to re-home him since he did not appear to be compatible with their program. I corresponded with the manager, Tiffany, via email since we work different hours. When my daughter tried to talk to Tiffany herself in person, she was not heard at all and Tiffany rudely dismissed her. (As a side note, some - not all - members of the office staff also need to work on their customer service skills.) After pouring many hours and dollars into this barn, we were asked not to return because we dared to provide constructive feedback. The barn does good work, but they don’t commit to properly training green horses which is very concerning. To parents of inexperienced riders: I would recommend that you watch your child’s lessons and advocate for them directly with your child’s instructor if you have any concerns. Avoid the office.

This is the best place in the world. I have been here for 6 years and still love the place. It helps me to relax and enjoy myself and forget all my problems (unless they are really, really big, but even in that case coming here relaxese). The community of instructor here is amazing and if you find the right group of people to ride with, this place is magical! I love it here. Thank you for creating such a wonderful place.

I heard about Thorncroft years ago; really wanted to volunteer, but was still raising a family. Now that I co-parent my 9 year old grandson, I am delighted to report that I 'volunteer' taking him there for riding lessons. He and I stopped over casually one day, and were so impressed with the layout *which we had previously viewed online. It felt as though it was thee most serene place in the County. The staff could not have been more professional or friendly. We called to book his first class of many, and Amy was superb! What a gal to juggle all the balls and not drop any. She worked diligently to provide us with a convenient time, AND she did it more than once, as we needed to change the day/dates. The folks there take a genuine interest in helping the children and their parents who attend lessons here. The love they have for this beautiful animal is witnessed in countless ways, and ripples onto the patrons. We thank God for using Thorncroft for such a significant purpose: a child's future. It is one of the best investments anyone will ever make. I only wish we had done this sooner.
