They refer to it as, "The Eye." Located at the Tianjin Binhai Vocational College. The bookshelves of the building are used both to frame the space and to create stairs, seating, the layered ceiling. Roughly 363,000sq ft built to hold 1.2 million books. The only thing I didn't realize until I saw it was the books are painted on the walls halfway up, the painted bookshelves could hold books though (I guess it's to make it look cool until they can fill it up). It has 5 stories which house reading rooms, lounge areas, offices/meeting, computer, and audio rooms. It also accommodates service spaces, book storage, and a large archive. Its super amazing, the architecture and just the thought that went into it is one of the coolest things I've seen. It's a must see!!

The Libary was close. Nobody helped us, because the holiday. We travelled a lot for a nothing.
Tianjin Binhai Library (Chinese: 天津滨海图书馆), nicknamed The Eye, is a library in Tianjin, China. It is part of the Binhai Cultural Center, being one of its five central attractions. The five-level library has a total space of 33,700 square metres. It features floor-to-ceiling, terraced bookshelves able to hold 1.2 million books, and a large, luminous sphere in the center that serves as an auditorium with a capacity of 110 people. The library is nicknamed 'The Eye' because the sphere, which appears like an iris, can be seen from the park outside through an eye-shaped opening.
Please note that this is not the popular Tianjin Binhai library, also referred to as "the eye." It's a perfectly good but standard college library. If you are looking for the big well designed library "the eye" please look for the location using the chinese name: 天津滨海新区文化中心图书馆. It is between the Citizen Square and Taida subway stops, next to Ziyun park. Hopefully the innaccurate reviews and photos currently tagging this location as "the eye" library get taken down.
The photos posted are wrong. The real Binhai library (the Eye) is near Citizen's Square station (地铁市民)。

This not the famous library which is called the eye, that one is part of Tianjin cultural center if you want to visit that Library you have to search for Tianjin cultural center not this.
