Chapeau d'O is a premium headwear specialty brand owned by Kurihara Corporation, the largest specialist headwear company in Japan. It aspires towards effortless elegance and sophistication, combining fashion trends of Paris, New York, Los Angeles, and South America. The brand was born from the serendipitous meeting of creative director, Kanako Ishida, with Kurihara Satoru, CEO of Kurihara Corporation. A hat lover herself, Kanako expressed her frustration at the headwear industry of Japan; Japanese designs were often "too kawaii"​ (childlike), whilst imported articles were expensive and not tailored towards an intimate fit for the local population. Following its inception, the brand rapidly expanded to encompass 4 boutique stores and over 30 pop-up stores across the country, showcasing original "Chapeau d'O"​ headwear, in addition to those from imported brands such as Athena New York, Janessa Leone, Helen Kaminski, Lola Hats, and Inverni, amongst others. KURIHARA CORPORATION Kurihara Corporation was founded in 1922 in Senba, Osaka, as a headwear wholesaler. Its designs fervently adhere to the fundamental philosophy of timeless fashion - palatable to the most discerning trend followers, whilst concurrently appealing to those of classical taste. The very first iconic item Kurihara Corporation introduced to the market was "Boater Hat in Kimono"​ style, which became widely popular after its first launch, and has deeply influenced contemporary Japanese headwear fashion ever since.
