Cross Timbers is a really nice place to visit. The lake is huge and there are plenty of clean, well equipped camping areas. There's even a few hiking trails. What a neat place to go hiking! I just wish I had more time to explore and camp and kayak! This was just a stop on a road trip so we did not plan much time here, but we did hike the short 1.5 mile loop called the Blue trail loop of the relatively extensive Chautauqua Hills Trail. We hiked over a wooden bridge and through old forest and scrambled over boulders and rocky low water crossings. The loop followed a finger of the lake that made it feel like we were walking along a creek. The trail was well marked with blue markers on the trees. There is a red trail and a yellow trail as well--which are longer trails. These trails are multipurpose trails in that I guess bikes and horses can also use them. The trail is actually classified as moderate since you do find yourself traversing boulders and rocks.

This is a beautiful, small but well kept, rustic park more for tent campers and fishermen. It is very limited on RV sites with hookups. However, primitive camping areas are nestled amongst the oak trees with plenty of space between sites and room for smaller trailers and 5th wheels. Can't say enough about the staff! Awesome! Congenial and helpful all the way around Toronto Lake is very shallow. Great for kayaking around the numerous nooks, crannies and an island or two. Powerboats stay more towards the deeper water by the dam. At the moment there is no beach as the massive flooding has destroyed what the park did have but it's slowly being rebuilt. Personally I'm not inclined to swim in that lake mostly because the water is very murky but thankfully doesn't have a fishy odor. This park sets a standard on how a park should be managed and kept.

Fun, lots of space, a lot of facilities (many primitive, but a restroom is a restroom) Different coves for different experiences. Hiking, swimming and Biking as well as boating and kayaking. I would say that swimming is best in a cove from a boat, but you can definitely find places to get in the water if you know your way around. Have Fun!

Super nice public facilities here and lots campsites. Rates for RV hookups reasonable. Some very nice dry camping sites overlooking the lake with beautiful views. Ice and firewood for sale here too along with laundry facilities, showers, RV dump, and cabin rentals. A gem of a state park in southeast Kansas.

Very clean and beautiful. We considering the cabins which are nicely lake shore. The bathroom we used was clean and even had soap.
