We usually ride through Cades Cove around 4 p.m. with the hopes of seeing the deer and wild turkey. We were not disappointed. We saw 43 or more deer, I think we stopped counting and 2 wild turkey. I am always fascinated by the story of Cades Cove and definitely worth the drive. Beware though, there will be plenty of cars and much stopping along the way for pictures. We saw 3 big bucks with racks of more than 6 points.

Nature calls. If your in a hurry go somewhere else. A beautiful display of mountain ranges, open fields, old log cabins and an imagination of what the pioneer lifestyle was like in the mountains. The drive is slow and steady with many pull overs to stop and take pictures or find a trail to hike. You will find an old community establishment and gift store close to the end. The gift store is quaint and staff friendly. Elk are not as present as dear and bear. If you want to see elk you need to go to the NC side of the Smokies.

Nature at it's best. Beautiful views of mountains across vast fields. Not much wildlife in January but still very peaceful. Can't wait to come back in the spring!

You need to drive the Cades Cove loop road if you're visiting the Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge areas in Tennessee. Lots of very cool history, old buildings, GORGEOUS scenery, and lot of wildlife! We saw deer and even a black bear! There are lots of pull-offs to park without blocking the one-way loop road so you can take pictures or hike. Wear comfortable hiking clothes if you plan to visit the buildings along the route, because you will have to hike small distances to get to some of the stops. If you're an adventurous hiker, there was a 2.5 mile round-trip hike to a waterfall listed as \moderately difficult\ on the sign. In any case, give yourself at least 3 hours to drive, hike, explore, and take pictures. Stop at the visitor center to use the bathroom and get a map of the loop which includes info on all of the sites along the way. You won't regret it!
