Stunning refuge that has established a highly successful wood stork breeding habitat; up to 400 fledglings born here every year. Also many heron and egret nests throughout spring and early summer Hundreds of other birds to see-- be patient, walk the trails.

I would give 10 stars if I could!!! This place is amazing, huge and full of wildlife! There are literally thousands of birds in one place!!! We have also encountered juvenile alligators, dragonflies, rabbits, lizards and snakes. It's a paradise for anyone interested in birdwatching. You can wander around for hours, it's a great place to go biking as well. And it's free. We rented cabins right across the street from refuge exit an it was amazingly quiet.

Very cool small place. Lots of trails scattered throughout. Saw two gator in first five minutes. Stork colony was amazing especially to hear. Worth checking out.

A good mix of wetland and forest, there is a lot to see here, especially if you get out of your car and walk the trails. During the nesting season, Woody Pond is wondrous, full of all kinds of nesting wading birds including Wood Storks, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, and assorted herons. There are also plenty of Alligators to see around the ponds. Away from the ponds, there seems to be a healthy population of Wild Turkeys and Whitetail Deer. This is a terrific place to visit for any lover of nature and wildlife.

Wow!!! What a beautiful place to visit. This wildlife refuge is just that...it is free and would have been more than happy to pay a fee. You have the option to drive thru which is what we preferred considering there are animals present, like alligators who are native to coastal Georgia. You have to be alert and drive less than 10 to15 miles per hour to actually see animals in their natural habitat. Have your camera ready or you will miss a photo op, which happened to me quite often. So many beautiful trees. We loved it. If you love nature this is a place you must visit.
