Il complesso di dodici palazzine, con relative infrastrutture, fu realizzato fra il 1941 ed il 1942 ed è indicato dai tranesi come "le Casermette". In questa caserma fu ospitato il IX Deposito Genio. Il 27 aprile 1943, a seguito di un bombardamento, per il quale persero la vita 14 militari, gli uffici furono spostati nell'attuale Palazzo di Città, dove rimasero fino al 1960 circa. La caserma “Lolli Ghetti” fu sede anche della Brigata “Pinerolo", ma attualmente ospita il 9 Reggimento Fanteria “Bari”.
