I love hiking the trails in the forest. I love boardwalks even more. The trillium trail, and black cherry both have a boardwalk at the 1 end of the trail. You can also take the trillium trail which intersects with the ice age trail segment that runs behind Aurora. It was muddy in spots before i got to the ice age trail segment and the black berry bushes are overgrown in spots so watch out for prickers. The views are awesome. I love wetlands. The other trail I love through here is the birch trail. It's a .3 mile boardwalk loop. My kids love walking this trail. I highly recommend walking these trails. The woodland dunes forest is beautiful. Also the woodland dunes main preserve center off 310 has lots of trails and another beautiful boardwalk through the wetlands.

The entrance for hiking is at the west end of the area at the end of Goodman rd. You will see a trailhead sign but there is no parking except along the edge of the road. It's a ver cool hike among lots of boggy and marsh areas! See the pic of the map I post. Don't forget to hit up the .75 mi coneflower trail (a loop) on the north side of Goodman road just outside of the natural area.
Hike is as described. Lush, wet, soft and relatively flat. Variety from forest to fern-filled grassland was a nice change in scenery. Plenty of dragon flies around!
Nice found a new trail today
Great walking trails. Wonderful scenery.
