Their fish chowder is so delicious and the crusty warm bread is the perfect accompaniment. The cafe is run by Jane and Sam, a husband and wife team who are delightfully kooky with good humour and plenty of banter with the customers. The cafe looks like an antique shop. In fact, there’s prices on everything and you can probably buy anything if you wanted to, but I didn’t want to spoil the charm of the place. Everywhere you look there’s interesting knick knacks and vintage curios. Bonus fact, Jane has a whimsical quirk of intentionally wearing mismatching shoes.

Quirky little coffee shop / antique shop nice staff lovely puddings
What an amazing experience we had at the fourpence cafe. The place was filled with lovely quirky antiques which can be purchased. The food OMG was exceptional and very generous portions. Finally the owners were so warm and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We would highly recommend this cafe if your in Ulverston or the lake district.
Good old fashioned table service and delicious food in quirky, interesting surroundings. We had a triple decker sandwich and a fish chowder. They did not disappoint! Hearty, tasty food that won't break the bank.
An authentic olde-worlde café serving great food in a lovely atmosphere.
