IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO COME HERE.. DO NOT! I am a UIUC student who lives a block away from this shop and spotted a nice bike from the window. I came in on 02/08/21 and the man was automatically judging and laughing me for even asking how much the price of the bike was. His service is horrible! It is not worth coming here, there are other plenty of bike shops around.

Went to his shop back in August after moving into campus and looking to find myself a new bike. He had bikes starting at 300, and we asked him if he had anything lower or any used bikes. Instead of giving us options, he decides to call us out and say we don’t have the “ware-width” to purchase a bike. He definitely does not want to run a business properly so don’t give him any business to attend to. There are a bunch of other bike shops nearby, including Durst which is just a block away, so don’t waste your time. If I could give 0 stars, I would do so with no hesitation.
I needed a tube replacement so I called beforehand to get an idea of how much it would cost and when I should go in. When I spoke to the owner on the phone, as well as when I went to the store, he was extremely rude and condescending. I didn’t even get a quote on the phone because he hung up (while I was in the middle of a sentence) before telling me. He’s cash only, which he also didn’t say on the phone. His store is in complete disarray and it looks less like a business and more like the site of a natural disaster. When I asked if I could leave my bike with him for 15-20 minutes while I went to get cash, he refused, so I ended up going to Neutral Cycle, where they did take card, they were much friendlier, and it ended up being cheaper than it would have been at Bikeworks. tl:dr The service is abysmal and he clearly doesn’t know how to run a business. There are much better options.
Bruce is absolutely the man. It was refreshing to meet him. I had several issues including a broken spoke occur during my morning ride today. Another shop had told me it could be a week to get repairs done. Bruce knows his stuff and got me back on my bike by this afternoon. I don’t think anyone can beat his prices and his attention to detail is unmatched. I learned some things today about my bike too.
Great service and fair price. Although you have to pay with cash! He gave me lots of tips about how to take care of my bike. I liked how he was a no BS person and knew really well how to fix my bike. He also has a sweet cat which makes the visit awesome.
I noticed the store was open as I went past the riding my bike. With the hours I work I never see the place open. I had today off because of Holiday. I walk in he says "where your bike?" "Just outside. ." "Can I help you with anything, are you looking for anything in specific? " "No, I've just never been here before and wanted to stop in and see what all ya got" "Are you looking for anything in specific? " "No I just wanted to check out the place. ." "Well if you're here to kill time, then you're wasting mine" He then stepped towards the door and wanting me to leave and so I did. Normally I am not the type to make reviews but this is the worst I'll probably be treated in an establishment in my entire life. He didn't know that I work full-time and make good money and would be interested in giving him my business in the future. To those of you defending him. Yes he may be a good person at the core, but his attitude is poor. His prices are not worth making up for his attitude. "He knows a lot" All bike store owners know a lot.
very rude. just needed a tightening of a part. was told to buy a tool and do it myself.
I have no idea why this place has so many bad reviews. I was reluctant to go to this shop because of all of the negative reviews, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the service I received. I'm a student with no car so I ride my bike pretty much everywhere year round. When my front brake failed, I was pretty desperate to get it fixed quickly. Bikeworks was the closest bike shop that was open, so I called and took it there. While the owner Bruce wasn't interested in pleasantries or unnecessary chit-chat, he certainly was not rude to me. Nor did he bite my head off about my lack of bicycle knowledge as many reviewers reported. I dropped my bike off at about 2pm, expecting to receive a call the next day at soonest. Bruce called at 3:30 to let me know that my bike was done and that I could pick it up. He even kept the shop open for an extra 15 minutes so I could pick up my bike that afternoon. On top of that, the repair was incredibly inexpensive. I will definitely be coming back to this shop for all of my future bike-related needs.
