This is the last weekend of 2020 that the Birch Bark Canoe Livery plans to be operational for the general public. The reservation over the phone was a breeze as was the on line forms, which could be completed on arrival. So excited that I started kayaking at 73. Made sure to watch some U tube how to paddle before I went. And it is shallow so water shoes with decent soles are probable a must. The Mad River tends to be rocky and extremely shallow for most of the 5 miles. The staff right sized my kayak for me. The trees were beautiful with the sun shinning through. Definitely a bucket list item, that is worth repeating. Recommend the kayak for starters. It was just terrific!

This place is great. We had a wonderful time. Scenery is beautiful. Reasonably priced. Everyone we ran into on the river was so nice & helpful. Great time was had by all.

It was very relaxing to hang out with my family on a canoe. It took us about 2 hrs and a half to finish 5 miles down the river. We had our cooler onboard which was a huge plus to the journey. My 3 year old had a great time and would love to revisit in the future.

Perfect for families or beginners. We took 4 kids, the youngest was 9. We rented 2 canoes and 2 inner tubes. Each canoe had a inner tube attached by a rope. The water was clear and we saw fish at the bottom. It was shallow enough where I wasn’t concerned when the kids fell off the inner tube. They could stand and hop back on the tube. (But not so shallow where the canoe would get stuck)The route was completely shaded and we didn’t even notice it was 90 degrees out. The reservations and paperwork was easy to fill out online and when we arrived all we needed to do was check in. We did have 9am reservations and there was ample parking. The bus we took to the drop off area was very clean and spacious. The staff was attentive and nice during checkin and coming into the end of the trip. I will defiantly be back and will try single kayaks next time.

A nice time and really great scenery. Canoe rental was very reasonable. The porta-johns could have used a little attention but it was a busy weekend.

My family and I had an excellent time! From check in, to the bus getting us to the drop-off, to getting put in the water. The staff are so nice and respectful and also very good about their safety measures. The livery is clean, beautiful, and perfectly shaded. We had nothing to worry about! We can't wait to go back!

Great place for canoeing! We took our dog for the first time and the staff was super patient with her and us trying to figure out how to get her in the canoe! Tubing is super relaxing as well....just be prepared to spend at least 4 to 5 or even 6 hours on the river if you choose to tube. Love this place!

This is a great spot to canoe or kayak! The experiences are efficient and easy. We love all the fish and wildlife you can see along the trips. Great price for well done rentals
