Vainikkala is the gate way station of Finland from Russia. What Russia was Soviet, before existing from Soviet, custom check was very very strict. Checking was not only personal bags but also cabin carpet of rooms. But now checking is very simple. Only picked up person has to open bags. Attached is the border in between Russia and Finland 2017. 1972 we could not take pictures.

In April the passport control was very fast because there were only 4 people (including ourselves) who had got off the train to get to Lappeenranta. Returning we had to wait longer just because we had got there two hours or so before the train's departure. Anyway, we passed passport and customs control smoothly, with no problems, delays, etc. No wi-fi was there...

Очередь движется очень медленно. Когда Вы одинадцатый и обслуживают двое (это максимум), то всё равно рассчитывайте простоять полчаса. Советую запасаться терпением. Хорошо, что на таможню из Финляндии уходит не более минуты.
