Great military surplus store. I went in to try and find a bubble level for my Silva compass, as well as some field gear. No dice on the level, but the owner gave me a compass that had some bubbles in the center for free! Got some socks and a decent hat that's served me pretty well on the cheap. Would recommend.

If you need shoes or boots go see Johnny, the manager in the footwear department. I had to buy boots for work and he gave me good advice. I ended up buying a nice pair of waterproof boots that I am super happy with. He was knowledgeable, friendly and an overall great guy. He'll take care of you.
*Funky oddball store selling military leftovers. Institution in Vancouver for decades. Also clothing, hiking shoes, camping equipment. Used to the competition to Mountain Equipment Coop a long time ago. But now *closed forever (Sept 2017)
Interesting store. It's part outdoors gear and part military surplus. Prices are slightly higher here but some stuff is unique.
Some guy (staff) was hanging out of the office window above store smoking a cigarette yelling at people in the parking lot. Pretty sure he should not be smoking inside as it goes against the workplace health and safety by laws. Not to mention the bad impression and lack of professionalism demonstrated by yelling out of the window at people.
Thank god I found this place. I've searched everywhere else to find the right hiking boots for my trip to Machu Picchu. There was a young lad there that was very polite and knowledgeable. I explained my situation and he helped me find the exact boots I needed within a few minutes. Also, take a look around before you leave the store especially if you're planning a trip, because they have a lot of other interesting things you might want that you haven't added to your shopping list. I highly recommend this place if you don't want to spend a ton of money.
I got a pair of waterproof hiking shoes. One of them started making squishy sounds after couple days under heavy rain. I brought it back and Jerry (owner) exchanged it with a brand new pair, no questions asked. This place might not look as fancy as MEC but if you'd like to get the same gear cheaper and get genuinely friendly service, I'd highly recommend you check them out before you pay more for the same things somewhere else.
the staff were really helpful and extremely friendly. They were moving things around in the store yet it was still organized. This is a store I will go to again.
