A CLEAR SCAM. Beware of people stopping you on the streets. These canvassers used manipulative techniques, blocked my path when I tried to leave, and straight-up lied to me about donation payments. I originally wanted to ask them questions about what exactly they do. Red flag #1: Didn't have a straight answer. Red flag #2: Tried to use guilt-tripping and emotionally-manipulative techniques such as talking about "turning away little kids" if I decided to walk away. Red flag #3: I attempted to walk away 3 times, but they just stood right in front of me, preventing me from leaving. Red flag #4: I said I wanted to do some independent research, Oliver (one of the canvassers) immediately asked me what I was going to Google, then proceeded to INSTRUCT ME on how I should be researching them, step-by-step on the phone. So the most UNACCEPTABLE thing came later, when I decided to sign-up (I wanted to go home), I repeatedly asked him if I will get charged and he answered "No, you WON'T GET CHARGED ANYTHING until the 15th of next month." A couple days later, I see a clear charge to March of Dimes on my credit card. I emailed their donations services, only to have the lady tell me she'll transfer my issue to another department, and never heard back again. It's not even about the money. I have no choice but to post this review in the hopes it'll prevent this from happening to other people. I just thought we have better organizations than this in Canada. It's hugely disappointing to see that this is A CLEAR SCAM.
Great charity!
