Gracious service, a signature of such a landmark restaurant. Drinks are positively strong too! Steelhead was nicely done and juicy; it was just a bit bland. Scallops were tasty although a bit too try. My absolute favorites were the ahi tuna and the chocolate fondant dessert. Absolutely heavenly. A great restaurant for drinks and discussions; cozy enough to be comfortable, formal enough to be good for a business chat!

Unfortunately when we were there at approximately 2pm, the only food available was a brunch menu... it was mainly breakfast style. Nothing wrong with that but not what we craved. They did make us a Plate of fries which helped and the bartender made great drinks. He also explained to us that the kitchen is small and doesn't have the capacity to expand the menu during our visit. I've been going to this location for 20 years during all the changes. I will go again!
So incredibly disappointed with a recent visit to Notch8 to celebrate a birthday for 2. We had booked a high tea each, specifically stating one vegan diet well in advance. When we arrived, we were told there were no designated vegan options, but the chef would accommodate - basically just reducing every item to its bare ingredients. Hardly worth the pretty penny! Our server (who was incredibly helpful, despite the circumstances) suggested we order off the brunch menu instead. Not a single listed vegan item. There was only one viable option that had to be tweaked. I get that not every restaurant has the capacity to accommodate vegan diets... but the Fairmont? And especially in this day and age, not to mention the incredible vegan options and high tea menus they had available in past years. We have visited for high tea every year for the last 4-5 years, but I’ll be going elsewhere as of next. Extremely disappointed - please do better.
Environment is very nice very spacious with pianist playing in the background. Good service. Food selection however is very limited. Taste is decent.
Vancouver has lots of wonderful restaurants. But this is one of my absolute favourite restaurants not just because of the food, but because of the stunning interiors! We were seated in the back where the driveway was right behind us, but with the sheer curtain, the velvet seat and the textured wallpaper, you feel so pampered. I also love how the name Notch 8 (in reference to the top speed when an experienced conductor would operate a train) pays tribute to this historic hotel being built by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company.
