They claim to have the best spicy sushi and it was pretty good. Service was fast, very friendly and cheerful staff. It has an unassuming entrance and you do have to go downstairs as if you are entering a rumpus room. The decor is plain and it is in need of a refresh but not a deal breaker.

Four stars if you are looking for cheap and cheerful sushi downtown. Service is quick, good for take out or dine in. I’ll drop by every few weeks if I don’t have a lot of time or want to spend a lot of for sushi. I like the street level window seat, an excellent perch to eat and people watch. The essential Japanese beers are available to pair with your Cali-roll. Thanks Rue 909 staff, see you again soon.
Extremely hot! Thermometer on the wall said 27 degrees, in the lower level. Does not make for a great rating experience. Food quality was ok and price was ok, but this is more of a fast food vibe. No table service, you order in line at the counter like a food court. Looks like they do a lot of take out orders which makes sense. Don't think I'd eat in again but might try the take out.
Delicious and fast/friendly service. Came in for a snack after a long bike ride! So happy find that they have gluten free soy sauce.
ONE STAR BECAUSE GOOGLE DOESN'T LET ME GIVE NEGATIVE STARS. There are bad sushi places, and then there is this. Rue 909 is an abomination in the face of an entire cuisine, an slap in the face of what can be considered lunch, and a middle finger anybody who mistakenly wonders into the dark dungeon that they call a restaurant. Look at the picture. That's what they sell to you for 12 bucks as a lunch combo. While they call it a \karage bento\, it should really be renamed RICE WITH BURNT CHICKEN AND GARNISH. Their excuse of a california roll literally has nothing but imitation crab, seaweed, and rice. Needless to say, I will never be going there again, but I am more ashamed of myself for having gone there in the first place and for eat half of this garbage. Internet strangers, please learn from my painful lesson and avoid this place like a plague.
