The Sitar Restaurant is provides the entrance to another "reality". One of the oldest East Indian restaurants in Vancouver. The owner Kulbir is a master chef in the East Indian cuisine tradition. The ambiance, music, art, and the architectural detailing inside creates the feeling of adventure, a trip to another world of smells, tastes, and of course a "chai" tea. Black Indian tea, boiled milk, surgar or honey, cardonmen, cinnamon, amazing taste, and settling contribution after a chicken or lamb curry. The appetizers are not to be forgotten, and best to share! Vegetable pakoras: chick pea flour, onions, spices, spinach, and spices! Pick up with your fingers, and dip in tamarin chutney, and green mint chutney. Something special: Alu Paratha: stuffed chapati: potato, spices to dip in chutneys and a yogurt dip consisting of shredded cucumber, and black pepper A wonderful Gastown perennial, for lunch, a mid afternoon delight, and of course a dinner to remember. Unrushed, wonderful service, staff asking you if you require anything, and are enjoying your cuisine choices!

This place is my preferred one. I visit many restaurants but to this restaurant I keep coming back again and again. The crew is very helpful and the food they offer is so appetizing. I am always happy to have a nice dinner in this place. I recommend this place with pleasure.
Exceptional spot to eat food when in a hurry. Their customer service is fast, rates are convenient, excellent atmosphere. Keep up the good work
I adore this restaurant! They prepare fantastic food, they have a nice menu, The chef in that restaurant is a professional, I like a lot eating all their dishes. The food is always fresh, the attitude towards the customers is agreeable. I go often to this place and I was never discontended. I recommend it to all my friends.
I really liked this restaurant. Love how it’s been operating in the same spot for like over 20 years, if not more. Their vegetarian samosas were simply the best; also really loved the vegetable lentil soup. The cheese naan was also pretty good. Servers were very nice and friendly and the overall atmosphere is lovely. A little old maybe, a Reno would have been nice, but overall its a great stop over for an authentic Indian cuisine if you don’t mind the atmosphere being a bit oldish.
Ordered takeout from here last night as there was an offer for free onion bhajis over 20 spend. The chicken korma tasted good although overly garlicky. The onion bhajis were a doughy mess and were not crispy at all - very oily and onions tasted off & sweaty. Naan was crispy. Rice & papadum were fine. The cherry on top came this morning when I woke up to my stomach turning in knots. I might expect this if the curry was spicy, but it was not. It was a korma. Would not recommend this place.
Disappointing experience here. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and it was mediocre at best. There was a nice char flavor on the chicken which and the curry had a nice aromatic flavor but the chicken was on the dry side. However, I felt that the curry was definitely missing a few spices of flavor as there was not that "umph" that I was expecting and was a little on the oily side compared to my other experiences at other Indian restaurants. There weren't that many pieces of chicken either for a 20 meal. On the plus side, the rice was good as it was not too mushy or hard. Overall, there is lack of flavor and the price is a little steep for what you are pay for.
The gentleman working there was asked a simple dietary question and just kept giving attitude. I guess unless you are okay to put whatever in your body you don't deserve good service. Would never visit.
