Not great. Partner had wallet and stuff stolen from a random on the street. He was in shared dorm so others had stuff stolen too. My partner also found a large rat in his room. Twice two separate nights this happened with the rat. We paid lots for partner to stay there while I required hospitalization. Having all the stress was not worth it. They bumped his room to private for one night due to theft. Its a pretty cool authentic old building. Just wish we had (primarily partner) somewhere that did not have these issues.
This was a nice cheap option for staying in downtown Vancouver. I stayed in a 4-person dorm with three friends. I don't think I would have liked it if I wasn't with friends or in a private room, as there is nowhere to secure belongings in the room. The staff were kind and helpful. I came in after hours but they accommodated that and gave me instructions on how to get in. FYI, this is not like a hostel such as one in Europe; it serves the same function as a hotel. All the material on their website was straightforward so I knew what to expect and not expect. There is a fridge to store things, some dishes, and a microwave on each floor. The beds were reasonably comfortable although they creak a lot every time I changed positions. The bathrooms were fine; they clean them once or twice a day. I appreciated the shower setup, as there were places to hang your things inside the shower and a curtain to keep your stuff from getting wet while you shower. The water didn't drain very well though-- bring shower shoes to protect your feet! The WiFi worked well. Overall, it was a pleasant stay in a great location.
Although very basic the staff are helpful and the space is great for the price! The kitchens are small induction jobs and a microwave so don’t expect to cook too much! I found the bed very comfortable and wasn’t too noisy even though the location is downtown. They offer free tea and coffee in the morning which is a massive bonus :)
Super cheap, so stay here if you don’t wanna spend 100 for a night. But you get what you pay for, the room is really cold in winter and the heater doesn’t seem to work very efficiently. Btw this building is over 100 years old, stay here if you wanna feel some history
Perfect and somewhat quiet location! Walkable to anywhere you want in downtown Van. Very old building, a lot of it is built with wood, causes loud noise when moving, and doors and windows have poor sound insulation - can wake you up. The interior is stylized to look like an interior of an old steamboat. Two toilets and showers per floor. Strangely smelling blankets.
Awesome location, right downtown you can get to everything. Staff were very nice. The only complaint I have is that we had one outlet in our room and it was directly above the sink (not a good place for an outlet) so we couldn’t keep our AC unit plugged in at night due to our phones having to be charged so it was very hot, and hard to sleep as the bed was not comfortable! Some other guests were very loud in the halls at 2am as if they were throwing a party (maybe drunk) but that’s the hostel life. It was my first experience in a hostel, and I didn’t hate it! Would definitely return.
Good location with affordable price. The bedroom is clean. The shared bathroom are also ok. But there is too few outlet to charge your phone if you stay with many people, need to bring the charger. The common area is a little bit small but overall is good and reasonable price.
