I am grateful for the Winright team! They assisted me to successfully dispute my Empty Homes’ Tax dispute for two properties, which ended up helping me save a significant amount of money due to the Empty Homes’ Tax. When I approached Winright, I had already submitted all evidence in my possession, but the City maintained that taxes were due. Winright took the matter on an urgent basis, corresponded with several parties, gathered and put together a robust defense within tight deadlines. In preparing the evidence, they were thorough, innovative, and covered areas of the matter and presented evidence in a way that ultimately persuaded the City. The team worked overtime and outside of their business hours to correspond with my witnesses in China and accommodated the witnesses’ schedule to produce several affidavits on an urgent basis. Without them, I would not have saved hundreds of thousands and would highly recommend Winright.

Winright’s CFO called me and explained that all the fees were in line with other law firms. He also told me they would be changing the wording of the quote email to be more clear. Further, Winright will be sending me a cheque for 50 as a courtesy. I really appreciate him taking the time to call me and the effort Winright has put in to rectify the situation so I am changing the review to 4 stars. Original review: Hope you like surprise fees! Did my Conveyancing with them and on top of the 850 base rate they quoted me they charged me 60 for the legal software they use, a 70 “agent fee” for representing me at the land title office (not a disbursement), a 30 “file opening, closing” fee, and a 30 “photocopies” fee. Their original quote email to me disclosed that there would be additional costs but also said that “both disbursements and closing costs will remain the same regardless of the law firm you choose, as they are dependent on your individual circumstances.” This led me to believe that the additional costs were of the nature of fees paid to the land title office and government agencies, not fees that would cover the costs of expenses that should really be included in the base rate. So really... every other law firm in Vancouver charges an extra 160 for legal software, agency, administration, and photocopying? I’ll give 2 stars because otherwise, the conveyancing went fine.
