It's been my experience that this monastery is alike other monasteries I visited in Ladakh. There is a main Buddha statue in earth touching mudra. Dalai Lama photo is put up in the middle. There are small buddhas are also lined up inside glass cupboards. You can also see the old ancient Buddhist scripts inside temple. As we enter there are wooden desks are arranged sitting along with it monks perform rituals and do worship. Next to the temple, is monastery where Buddhist monks reside.

I visited this Monastery in Feb 2020 during my trip to Sarnath from Varanasi. Since I left from Varanasi by 4 pm, it was 6 pm when I finally visited this Monastery. The gate itself is so beautifully designed, that one feels happy! Dragons on both the sides of gate are huge and assure you. Inside the gate there is a big campus with temple of Buddha and living accommodation. In the temple, a beautiful golden statue arrests your attention. There is a Photo of Dalai Lama a great spiritual world leader. The temple has many Buddha Statues on display on 2 walls. Pl see the photos which show beautiful decoration on two walls. I wanted to spend some more time, but one monk appeared in the temple and told me that the temple is getting closed. (It was about 6-6.30 pm or so) All the reviews are showing temple is open for 24 hours, but my experience on Monday was not so.

The peaceful and traditional Tibetan Buddhist Monastery is a lovely, bright space located close to the main market area in Sarnath. It was constructed in 1955 and is maintained by the Lhadhan Chotrul Monlam Chenmo Trust and has glass display cases filled with miniature buddhas. The very sight of the Tibetan Monastery on the main road is exciting—two lions guard the very colourful and beautifully-designed entrance. Inside the large and open compound is a light pink stupa as a remembrance and gratitude by the Tibetans to the government of India for granting asylum to the fleeing Dalai Lama. It also denotes to pay tribute to all those who died in Tibet’s freedom struggle and those who continue to suffer oppression in Tibet. The door of the monastery is painted in bright red and the walls are surrounded with beautiful frescoes of Buddhist deities. Inside, the central image is a colossal Sakyamuni, another form of Buddha. Sometimes it is possible for visitors to stay overnight at the Tibetan Monastery by paying a small donation.

A perfect, safe and affordable place to stay while you are in sarnath. It’s located close to all major attractions. Beware, it’s hard to get a room during the peak season.

In the facade wall of this monastery the Tibetan Freedom Movement have expressed their woes : - - by way of displacements from their Fatherland and being made minority by strategic planning against them and that they have been struggling since 1959 and 6000 monasteries and institutes of learning in Tibet have been destroyed to wipe out their culture and race. The message is subscripted by Lhadhan Chotrul Monlam Chenmo Trust. It is a world known fact that Dalai Lama is the head monk of Tibetan Buddhism and traditionally has been responsible for the governing of Tibet, until the Chinese government took control in 1959. ... The Dalai Lama set up a government-in-exile in Dharamsala, India, in the Himalayan Mountains and stepped down in 2011. In 1989 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in recognition of his nonviolent campaign to end Chinese domination of Tibet Who is the 15th Dalai Lama is a Question now! Dalai Lamas are believed to be the reincarnation of Avalokiteshvara, an important Buddhist deity and the personification of compassion.

It is a traditional Tibetan temple build by the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The main shrine has a huge statue of Buddha along with his disciples. Also a place to light butter lamps. Has a number of prayer wheels one can turn. A Clean, beautiful and relaxing monastery.
