This is exactly the type of hotel I was wanting for my group! Authentic, Italian, Boutique hotel with lots of charm & character! The lake view rooms in the main hotel delivered on the breathtaking views for sure! Rooms were very spacious. Service was excellent! (Shout out to Luigi, Christine & Enzo) Breakfast was excellent, with pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal, meats & cheese, juices, coffee and made to order eggs & bacon. The pizza from the cafe was yummy! There are a lot of stairs here. There IS a small elevator for maybe 2 persons at a time, and it is slow, but works fine. My only complaint would be the pillows were flat & hard. But it did not affect my stay at all. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting an authentic Italian hotel experience, with incredible views and a 5 min walk into the village.

Hotel Olivedo was perfect for our Italian honeymoon. Our room (albeit dated) was charming and authentic. The furniture was wooden and marble topped and the view from our balcony was incredible over the lake. It was why we chose the hotel and we were not disappointed. If you prefer standard then find somewhere else. Despite having the ferry terminal outside, it wasn't loud or disturbing. We even enjoyed watching people go by from our balcony with a glass of prosecco in the evenings. Everything was clean, in our rooms and downstairs. The cleaners cleaned more than expected (our extra cutlery and glasses) for which we were very grateful for. The onsite parking was a huge relief with the tight parking around the hotel. Our breakfast was lovely. Because of Covid, we had to be served from the buffet. Enzo, the cheerful and smiley breakfast waiter, made sure that we always had a proper breakfast which made us feel very cared for and well looked after. He even remembered our preferences every morning despite all the other guests staying there too. The lovely lady downstairs whose name I never got was always welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately, I could not hug her goodbye but I would have if I could. One last thing I would mention, after reading "negative" comments would be that we were really glad that no-one passing by was allowed in to use the toilets. It was very reassuring that nobody other than the guests were allowed in the hotel in general. We felt very safe. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
I stayed at Hotel Olivedo During my first visit to Varenna on Lake Como. Accommodations were comfortable with old world charm. It is operated by a mother and her two adult children, together with an able staff the hotel and restaurant ran like a clock. I had a wonderful view of the lake Como from my bedroom window. The hotel has been on the shores of Lake Como since 1896. It is been in the family for three generations. I ate at the restaurant twice for dinner and I was very pleased. On the first night I had a mixed grill of fresh fish from Lake Como. That was my favorite. The other night I have the lamb chops which were very flavorful. The hotel was close to several of the local sites and town center. It’s right across from the ferry dock. I rented a boat from a business just a few doors down and went boating on the lake. I was very pleased with my stay there. Varenna is called the Chinqua Terra of Lake Como. It’s not as touristy as Bellagio or Como. If you’re visiting Lake Como try Varenna and consider lodging at Hotel Olivedo.
This is by far the worst experience with service around Como lake. While waiting for the ferry to Bellagio, we planned to drink a glass of wine at the restaurant of this hotel. It was already late evening and it was the last ferry over we were waiting for. While we entered the restaurant,(with only 3 tables with guests) we were guided to the table. As we sat down and wished to order ; we were told that they "only serve dinner" and not just wine. After that one older lady ran and opened the door showing us that we need to leave. After we objected, the young lad there (says he was the "owner") started acting even more agressively towards us prompting us to leave. He needed to be restrained by his own staff bit later. i give this miserable institution one star only because unfortunately , there no NEGATIVE stars available.
We absolutely loved it here! Wonderful host and great accommodations.
The only place to stay in Varenna if you want to travel back in time, chill out with a drink at the terrace and take in the rays of a setting sun to the sound of Fabrizio Di Andre and Lucio Dalla. Time stands still here. The ferry boats come and go like clockwork disgorging visitors and locals and f that gets too much, the sanctuary of the charming unfussy rooms are only a few steps away. Very nice owners, staff who make you feel very welcome.
An excellent location. Professional, friendly and very kind. Enzo and his team made us feel incredibly welcome. We enjoyed fresh pasta dishes and fresh lake fish. Delicious bottle of Chianti and a fabulous dessert of sorbet with limoncello. 113 euros for 4 for 2 courses plus coffee and a bottle of wine. Excellent value. Highly recommend
This is my absolute favorite place to stay in all of Italy! This is my second visit here and the staff is incredible! The Hotel Olivedo feels more like being at home with family than it does a hotel. From the moment we arrived, Luigi, Titi and Giuseppe have been the best hosts. They go above and beyond to make sure we are well taken care of. Every morning we are treated to a wonderful breakfast of pastries, breads, eggs, meats and cheeses. Our server, Enzo, delights in serving us and creating his special cappuccino as well as hot chocolate. The fruit is fresh an excellent addition to the meal. Enzo truly has a passion for making sure we are well taken care of and start our day happy! If you ever are in Varenna, I highly recommend staying at Hotel Olivedo. I assure you, whenever given the opportunity to be here, this is where my family and friends will be staying!
