An architectural marvel present in the heart of the city. Came for medical purpose, but came across this temple. It's a serene beauty. Quiet, clean, the design, the detailing, the gardens in the temple compound, all these things are simple marvelous. Dedicated to Lord Shiva. No entry fees, only parking charges are applicable. Need atleast one security personnel in the temple campus to make sure no one is destroying the architecture just for the sake of taking photo. What a place! Immensely happy visiting it.
Architectural marvel , such fine carving was done at 17th century BC . It was sad to see people climbing on monuments and there was no security to check it. This invaluable treasure from past must be preserved for our future generations.
Peaceful temple with amazing stonework and architecture. A must visit.
Very old temple inside fort. It has vast history. Sculpture was so beautiful.
Jalakandeswarar Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva which is located in the Vellore Fort, in heart of the Vellore city, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India The Jalakanteshwara Temple is a fine example of Vijayanagaram Architecture. The temple has exquisite carvings on its gopuram (tower), richly carved stone pillars, large wooden gates and stunning monoliths and sculptures. These Vijayanagara sculptures are similar to the ones present in Soundararajaperumal Temple, Thadikombu, Krishnapuram Venkatachalapathy temple, Srivilliputhur Divya Desam and Alagar Koyil.[9] The Gopuram of the tower is over 100 ft. in height. The temple also has a Mandapam, with the hall supported by carved stone pillars of dragons, horses and yalis (lion like creature). The temple itself built in middle of a water tank (called Agazhi in Tamil), and there is water surround the temple like a garland. The circumference of the water tank is 8000 ft. The wedding hall (Kalyana Mantapam) inside the temple has a 2 faced sculpture, that of a bull and an elephant. The water used for bathing the deity (abishekam) is drawn from an ancient well called the Ganga Gouri Thertam, within the temple
There is an ancient temple where you can see the construction of ancient times. The temple is clean and you can feel positive wives
