Hillcrest Carstar in Vestal did outstanding work in completely restoring our 2014 Toyota RAV4 to like new condition after major damage was done by a deer strike. They tried to charge me 1800 for repairing the rear bumper when the actual estimate was maximum 800. After getting back the car it also missed the cover of the trunk for some reason. Honestly, they did everything wrong. Would recommend any place other than this.

Pro: Carstar did a good job with the body work. Cons: The communication from Carstar was not transparent. My vehicle was initially quoted to take about 10-14 days, it took 5 weeks. I understand there are delays (especially with the pandemic and delivery of parts). I did receive text updates about the continual delays. This is all fine. The main issue I will not recommend this business is the fact they were not honest with the completion date. What they told the insurance company was different from what I was told, as a result my rental car expense was greatly inflated. Upon pick up no one showed me the work they did on my car or what was done. The main focus was to sign the paperwork, pay the deductible, give me my key. They made a point to ask about a survey I will receive and they asked for a “10” on the survey. They also made a point to tell me about a discount I can have for future Penske truck rentals. I’m not sure about the significance of that. Lastly, every employee other than the person at the checkout desk and estimator were unmasked and walking around the office without any face coverings. As a customer and fellow community member I view this as unacceptable and unsafe. This shows the office policy has zero respect for our community and their employees during the pandemic.
