Thank you so much to staff and veterinarians of Birds & Exotics! I had an appointment for my green cheek conure this morning as I was concerned with his unexpected feather plucking. I greatly appreciated the transparency of what everything was going to cost, and since the problem wasn't too serious yet, I was given different treatment plans with the professional advice of Dr. Dewey. The curbside assistance was very smooth and everyone was super efficient and so friendly. They took great care of my bird while in their care. Went home feeling relieved with a plan of action. Thank you so much!

The vet could see my daughters rabbit today, explained the issues and options clearly. Staff was professional and caring. My first time going to a vet very happy with experience.

I drove 2 1/2 hours down to Bedford Hills with my 21 year old rescue Senegal parrot because he had a stroke on a Saturday and our regular avian vets were not open locally. They were thorough knew just what to look for and explained everything in great detail to me. One of the gripes I have with our local vets is that they tend to talk down to me like I don’t know what I’m talking about. I feel like the vet I spoke to quickly picked up on the fact that I understand a lot about avian biology and medical terminology and spoke to me on a more scientific level which I really appreciated. Only to return home to my regular vet to not get that treatment. Considering another 2 1/2 hour drive to continue his treatment. I’m happy to say I know exactly where to go next time I have an emergency on a Saturday.

The Veterinary Center for Birds and Exotics saved my bird's life. My pet turkey was experiencing shortness of breath, lethargy, and lack of appetite. I had been taking her to another avian vet, who couldn't determine what was wrong, and referred me to Dr. Hess at the Vet Center for Birds and Exotics. In my opinion, Dr. Hess is the best avian vet in the northeastern USA. Not only did Dr. Hess correctly diagnose the problem that same day, but she administered life-saving treatments that saved her life. Dr. Hess also helped develop a care plan that continues to help my bird have a good quality of life, despite my pet's diagnosis of a mass in her abdomen that is leading to ongoing inflammation. I feel confident that everything possible has been done for my pet up to this point to make her comfortable and happy. When I had questions about her treatment, Dr. Hess patiently answered all of my concerns over the phone. Her level of expertise is apparent within moments of talking with her. I also would like to add that the Vet Center never questioned my unusual choice of a pet turkey, and treated my case with the same urgency as anyone else's more common animal companion. If you are serious about getting the best possible care for your exotic animal, then I recommend this place wholeheartedly. Are they the cheapest? No. But, they are the best, and it's hard to put a price on that.

Imagine going to the ER and as part of the visit the doctor tries to sell you supplements and some other health improvement device. Wait, whuuuut? Oh, and the price of these add-ons is baked into the final estimate for the entire emergency visit. Slick, real slick. Surely ethical business practices would have you quote the medical procedures separately from the optional well being add-ons.

My family and I have been coming here for more than 10 years. When I was young, we came here with my leopard geckos, and they got the best care they ever could have, even having a few issues diagnosed that I doubt would have been caught elsewhere. Dr. Hess is a kind and caring veterinarian, and is probably the most well known vet here, but every single vet we've been to who works here has been excellent. They even offer out of hours emergency consultations, which I have been able to use twice- once during a recent power outage when Dr. Hess told me how best to take care of my lizard and my rabbits in the hot summer heat, and once when she was able to squeeze one of my rabbits in the very next day after she got caught chewing on a phone cord (the area was rabbit proofed, but she's a very crafty creature and got into stuff when our backs were turned) to help not only with what I knew could be a problem (burns which she thankfully didn't have, intestinal blockage/stasis which we'll find out if she has today) but also with things I wouldn't have thought about (Zinc poisoning). For as long as our family lives less than an hour away (which will be at least for the rest of our current exotics' lifespan), this vet center will be our absolute go-to, and we've recommended it to all our friends. Never have we felt worse off after going here than we would have otherwise. I don't even usually leave google reviews, but I saw some absolutely bonkers ones while I was sending the directions to my mother, so I wanted to set the record straight: yes, this place is more expensive than the others, but you're getting world-renowned care of the highest quality for your pets. It's especially risky to go to a vet who isn't as experienced if you have a rabbit, and I'm sure as hell not taking that chance when I know we have exemplary care right here. Thank you to every vet here for your quality service!

I brought my rabbit Future here for an abscess. It was drained by them and the doctor wanted to me to pay over 5000 for a procedure that may not work. I gave them X-rays that I had done somewhere else that showed that Future had severe malocclusion but the insisted that they also needed CT scans as well as other unnecessary tests. All they saw was when I came in. They wouldn’t even help identify if another rabbit of mine was female or male but somehow they had time to do a very time consuming and expensive procedure. In the end I got a second opinion from caring animal vet who told me that draining the abscess doesn’t stop it from coming back it actually opens it up for more infection!!!! So the drained poor Future’s face Making him look like a zombie bunny. On top of that once the wound closed it became reinfected and abscess started to push his eye out. The doctor who went to for the second opinion removed the entire abscess with the sac intact. The filler it with antibiotic beads and then gave me a special cream to keep the wound clean. This minor surgery greatly improved Future’s appearance and happinesses . I would urge you to not use this vet and seek out a second opinion . This place cares only about money & don’t believe they are experts like they claim they are.

Dr Dewey is absolutely fantastic. She answered every single question I had and let me blast all my craziness spending an hour with me. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone. She saw my ferret who is intense and hard to handle, the techs were so great and I am going home with peace of mind. Thank you so much to this team!
