Breathtaking mansion with 14 generations of history! Definitely a must see while in Vila Real. It is not in the city centre but it's a worthwhile detour! There is an option to do a 30 minute tour of the house only, and a 50 minute one that includes a guided visit to the chapel and the beautiful gardens. We did the 30 minute tour and our guide was super interesting, attentive and answered all our questions! It is a bit expensive (we paid 13 per person to visit the gardens and the 30 minute tour) but in my opinion it was worth the money.

This place is absolutely beautiful and a must visit for everyone. The garden was breathtaking. The roses and the hedges were perfectly trimmed and taken care of. We also went on a guided tour. The tour guide was so knowledgeable and made the experience great. I highly recommend getting the tour.

Located in the Municipality of Vila Real, Palace of Mateus was mainly constructed in the 18th century, upgraded from a 16th century Winery. Consisting of a Manor House, a Chapel, a Winery and beautiful gardens, the Palace is now one of the National Monuments of Portugal. Emitting the splendor of the bygone era, this Baroque styled Palace is a very popular tourist attraction. Three photos have been attached.

Casa de Mateus exudes the glory of a former time in Portugese history (mid-1700s). The three primary buildings are the manor, the winery, and the chapel, but the delicately-kept gardens should not be missed.

The Casa de Mateus is not worth the steep entrance fee that is charges. The gardens are lovely but not very special and the visit to the house a bit underwhelming eventhough our tour guide was very friendly.

Beautiful grounds kept absolutely pristine. You walk along the vineyards where their grapes are in full harvest. The palace itself is amazing and the guide is very well-informed.

Stunning walk. Stunning house. The garden is above any expectation. The fir tunnel's air is to die for. One of the nicest examples of Portuguese garden building ! The house is not in the same league but still worths to go with the guided only walks.
