Amazing place. You can walk through the whole ironwork. You need several hours to see everything. Highly recommended!

Volklingen Ironworks is an amazing place that was been transformed into a museum and exhibit hall. The factory is massive and eerie which adds to the atmosphere of the signs and sounds that make up the self guided tour. The whole experience is very informative and interesting.

Awe-inspiring rusted hulks of a vast ironworks in a subtly presented museum. Good context for adults (including signs in English) and fun for children (lots of now-redundant switches and levers and a play area with a Carsten Holler slide).

An absolute must-see. The old steel works plant is laid still and used as museum and provides industrial landscape to display art. A unique place to visit.

This experience is simply amazing. You can walk on safe paths through almost the entire plant. Take into account that you will spend 2 to 3 hours if you want to see everything. During Corona times we missed quite some info in the first hall because the touch screens were all disabled for obvious reasons, but that didn't matter too much as everything else was open. There are no food facilities within the visit but there is a picknick area more or less in the middle of the plant. As this is a decomissioned industrial site it is impossible to make it accessible with wheelchair or stroller. You might at first feel a little lost, but no worries, you can only access paths that are included in the visit, and there are multiple ways to reach certain points.

Really impressive industrial heritage site. Good mobile app that explains the main stations but still it's beneficial if you some basic knowledge of steel manufacturing processes

It was very informative and shows how it was done in the early stages of iron works. The ironworks (building) is very big. You think it's small in the way of information but it was real real big and went into detail but not too much detail. Corona rules: the had the soap at the begin and end. You were forced to wear masks. There was a part when we needed to wear helmets (not sure if they were for the restorations happening there or not) but they had hair nets to keep them as virus free from the inside. A guard who explains that you need the helmets also washes them with sanitizer. There was a lot of walking so it was a work out on itself. But as you can see on some of the pictures, there was one part you could climb up high. You can get to that hight by using long stairs, the biggest workout. You even could go higher but we decided not to.
