You come here for the sea urchin. It is very fresh and tasty, with large servings. It will be a little expensive, but much cheaper than in most of the rest of Japan. The service was quick and friendly. We will come back the next time we are in Nemuro.

Delicious and fresh seafood in Hokkaido is plentiful. Karafuto Shokudo offers a wide variety of amazingly tasty dishes, all focused around the seafood found in these waters. This remains probably the best seafood bowl I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing, with layers of creamy uni (sea urchin), salty ikura (salmon roe), buttery hotate (scallops), and flavorful kani (crab). The bowl was literally overfilling with rich goodness and the freshness could not be better. While I could go on describing the deliciousness of any of the four, especially the buttery hotate, the uni brought tears of joy in my eyes. A friend of mine once told me you could easily judge a sushi/sashimi restaurant by the quality of their uni, as it doesn't stay fresh, can't be maintained through chilling for long, and can't be frozen, so the taste or texture quickly changes. Here was the epitome of that example; I have never tasted more rich and creamy uni than I had here. For those that turn away at the idea of eating it due to the texture or metallic taste, you probably have never had fresh Hokkaido uni. A bit pricey, but well worth the price.

The food is better than the price. Correct me after you tasted it.
