Literally, the best meal I've ever had. The bread they bring you comes in a box (awesome!) and the shoat (baby pig) was the most delicious piece of meat. Ever. It's not necessarily the place to go on a casual Tuesday, but definitely worth it for a special occasion. You will NOT be disappointed with CityZen (inside the Mandarin Oriental).

A full evening's experience of the highest of culinary art. Most of the dishes on the prix fixe were astonishingly good. The cheese board is worth a trip all on its own, and the wine pairings were exquisite. On my fish and meat dishes, the chef had a heavy hand with the butter; but my wife's dishes were perfect. The service was more casual than in other fine restaurants, but attentive and helpful in every way.
City Zen was about one of the best places that I have had the opportunity to eat. My little brother and I went to eat there and we got the price fixe menu. Everything from the service, to the wine to the display of the food was top notch. The only one issue I has, was the sound level. The decor of City Zen was very modern but this didn't leave any room for drapes to dull the clamor of hungry happy people.
Tied with The French Laundry for the best dining experience I've ever had. I went for dinner on a busy Friday evening. The service was attentive but not intrusive, the food was beautiful and delicious, and the little extra touches they added to celebrate my birthday make the evening extra special.
City Zen was on my list of top rated places in DC to visit. My wife and I recently went for a special occasion dinner. The interior looks modern and nice, but is not quite spectacular. The service throughout the evening was very good. We decided to both order the vegetarian tasting menu with wine parings. While we almost passed on doing the pairings because of the price, let me say the wine pairings were the best aspect of the night. All the wines we had were amazing fantastic probably the best I've ever had or very close to. They were just superb. As for the food, it was good. Some courses we quite liked such as the silken tofu, the sweet potato (or was it squash?) "steak" that thou it was all vegetarian and not even fake meat kind of tasted like steak, and the blood orange ice cream which was one aspect of the dessert. While some items were good, some were only ok. We enjoyed the food more at Komi and the Inn at Little Washington, but the food was still good. The prices definitely add up quickly, but it was a nice treat. If you go, DEFINITELY do the wine pairing!
CityZen has never impressed. Perhaps it's a crisis of expectation, but the food has never been interesting or delightful. The service feels like an upgraded TGIF. It is stunningly beautiful, though. But that's not why we go out to eat.
the best meal you can get in dc. extremely interesting flavors, textures and smells. truly a meal that involves all of your senses. the mini-parker rolls are a great example of showing how this restaurant can absolutely nail the traditional dishes, while the grilled foie gras is a perfect example of a delightful twist. plus it has the best vegetarian menu ever offered anywhere.
The best dining experience in DC. Inventive and delicious combinations accompanied by impeccable service.
