Fantastic restaurant in Columbia Heights. I went there with my family for my birthday last year and my 72 year old father, a tough critic of food, thought everything was inventive and very tasty. Beautifully simple fish apps are the most memorable.

Every detail of every dish was exceptional. The small plates are especially flavorful and the monkfish is the stuff dreams are made of. Very welcoming and nicely stylish but relaxed atmosphere and a short but divine cocktail list.

Changing my review for this place. The quality has definitely dropped at crane and turtle. I'd rated it a 5 but its more worthy of a 2 based on current evidence. The appetizers continue to be really good. Though the main course was piss poor the last few times. I had the fish vindaloo and it was tasteless apart from the heavy use of a balsamic dressing for the salad. Also whats a salad doing on top of a fish?

Great spot; innovative and interesting food. Not many seats, so make a reservation! Look forward to them opening a patio.

I would argue this is the best food in DC right now. This is in my top 3 most memorable meals.

Absolutely amazing. First time commenting on anything and it's solely to bring up the rating for this place after a single bad review (more than likely unfounded, at that, would be extremely surprised to hear that anything they cooked could make you "dizzy and nauseated" on the spot) brought it down. My girlfriend and I make a point to come here every single time we visit DC. We've even played with the idea of visiting DC just for places like this (we live in Seattle). Of the dishes mentioned in the bad review, we've had: Quail: Amazing. It's an appetizer, and we've ordered it every time since the first time we had it. Octopus: Also very good, although unlike the quail, I don't have a specific mention for it. Sweet potato and Kale: Again, done extremely well Monkfish and Duck: 10/10 Would absolutely order again (Have had the duck several times). Otherwise: Drinks: Amazing, personal favorite is the White Negroni. Cow tongue: The only thing we didn't especially like, but that was because of the texture, not how it was prepared.

Unfortunately as excited I was to eat here my fiancé got very sick with the food. This place had such high recommendations but the food was adequate. My fiancé ate something where she started getting dizzy and felling nauseous so we had to leave. It is due to something in the food. I am sad I had a bad experience since everyone else had a good one :( Here is what we had: The octopus was heavy on horseradish The hamachi tataki was bland The sweet potato and kale was slightly undercooked The quail was bland and unassuming The monkfish was over salted and un-eatable The duck was very good but not with the price

This was my favorite of all DC restaurants, and now it's gone... forever.
