The Be Engaged Africa Project (BEAP) is a development project towards addressing South Africa’s youth economic engagement crisis. BEAP was launched in January 2019 as a direct result recognising great urgency of drawing young people into productive economic activity. BEAP aims to create job opportunities for unemployed and unoccupied youth, through 1. Partnering with government, labour, and business. 2. Training and education of the market and entrepreneurial skills. 3. Networking and skill development programs. BEAP team involved in creating this intervention a database of 750 students, and thus far made progress by creating the opportunity for 302 in its first year of operation. Partnering with a few businesses that have market needs and working with young people and creating an online platform for the program. The idea behind BEAP is that by giving unemployed, inexperienced young people the opportunity to work and get engaged in economic activity, their resumes and experience will vastly improve making them more marketable. This exposure to the workplace combined with the skills they have accumulated and references from the host companies will hopefully give them better chances of employment, But more than ever, by being a part of the program they are able to earn some income which is what they essentially want and need.
