On a 100 degree day we decided to spend the morning at Robert Moses State Park. It is on Fire Island with great sand beaches boardering the Atlantic Ocean. There was a nice cool breeze coming over the 74 degree Atlantic. Inland Long Island was 100 at the beach 84 degrees. There is a bathhouse with showers, food is available from the cafe, umbrella and chair purchase and rental. Lifeguards are on duty. We also come here when it is not as hot to walk the mile boardwalk to the Fire Island Lighthouse. This is part of the Fire Island National Seashore. There are deer, and birds for viewing. There is a lighthouse museum and you can also go up into the lighthouse for a fee. If you like beach walks you can walk for miles. Some folks also fish along the beach. There are restrooms in all areas. If you are interesting in fishing, across the causeway at Captree there are fishing piers and one of the largest fleets of Party Boats on the east coast. They sail at various times and equipment is provided if needed. Try the Jib 6, Captain Rod or the Island Princess. For offshore the Laura Lee or Captree Princess or Pride. The State Park and National Seashore is well maintained and a delight for outdoor time with families and friends. I give credit to Governor Cuomo for allocating funds to the upkeep and improvement of NYS Parks.
