Shawnee State Park features an enjoyable mix of lakeshore views and elevated terrain. The Park Loop Trail is perfect for enjoying some of each. The rustic lodge is beautiful and well kept for an overnight stay with accommodations but a day-visit can be pleasant as well.

Did the 40 mile backpacking trail for a week. The trail was surprisingly very hilly. There were nice campsites (some very beautiful compared to others). The trail was well marked, except for some changes with location of campsite 3. Just so you know- the rangers are really on top of who is on the trail. There is a registration at the trailhead, and if you aren’t back when you initially stated, the rangers will worry. Because our hike took longer than usual (7 days instead of the ambitious 4), the park ranger took a 4 wheeler to the trails in search of us. When he found us he wasn’t angry, but really relieved and just happy we were okay. They really take care of whoever is hiking, which was comforting to know. You can sleep well know that if something happens to you, they’ll come out to find you. Our favorite campsites were 1, 3, and 6. Recommend you gather up your gear and take on the challenge of the backpacking loop! Get ready for hills and beautiful sites.

My family been coming about 40 years and this last trip was not the greatest... We tried to make best of the covid polices and not so friendly new employees that don't remember us but this time the new year experience was not expected.... I could list every issue we had but this would not end... For the money we spent this holiday to stay and eat and enjoy was not worth it sadly to say... it kills me to say this about one of my favorite places with great family memories... My grandmother and grandfather found Shawnee on a Sunday joy ride the first or second year of opening and we'll rest is history.... I hate to be a Karen but it is what it is... I hope if we do go back that it will be better everything... Just don't think we will be back for a little while
