I have just had a violin set up by Niam. It needed a new bridge, tailpiece, pegs and chinrest, as well as a general setting up. The service was incredible, at every point there was a great amount of detailed communication about the work being done. Before commencing work we had lengthy discussions about what was neccessary and what needed doing. Niam is so knowledgeable, and wise too, when advising about your violin. The work was finished in less than a month, and he had alot to do and I believe was busy with other peoples violins too. The prices are very reasonable, compared with other luthiers I have heard of. The bridge is beautifully crafted, and set up so very well, it is a bridge tailored to my needs and makes the violin really sing. When I arrived to pick up my violin I was allowed to test 5 chinrests (in actuality I only tried 2) and I decided I liked the Delphin light model, and I wanted it in ebony so that is currently on order. The new pegs turn beautifully, even though Niam tells me that was difficult to achieve, as the peg box wood was very chippy. Overall the work on my violin is of the highest quality. Niam also did some work on my fingerboard, and polished it which makes playing so much easier. Niam listened to what I wanted, and what I needed for the music I play and adapted his excellent work to what and how I play. In short the service was excellent and I would thoroughly reccomend Niam as a quality craftsman and reliable luthier.

I visited Niam after December, coming from France. Before this, we had talked a lot over the phone to talk about my requirements and get to know each other. It was all very pleasant and professional. He presented to me 8 instruments in my budget range, and everything from history to condition was discussed. We played through the violins deciding which ones I did and did not like, and this took a long time. He was very happy to listen and help. I chose finally my Dieudonne, so we did some soul adjustments and other things until I was fully happy. He made sure of this. Even though he is very young, he does his job very well with passion. Niam had great instruments, is honest, and was all the way very friendly. We ended this with dinner together at his expense. This was a great experience and recommend Niam to anyone looking for a professional instrument. I hope to continue doing business with him.

God Is In The Details

Niam was excellent to deal with and clearly has acquired a lot of knowledge in this area. I purchased an 1881 model from an English maker that arrived on perfect time via courier. I was a little nervous buying sight unseen and sending money to someone I'd never met but it was clear from our communications that Niam is really eager to get it right. Packaged perfectly and everything seems to be as described in our interaction, I have yet to get properly playing in this instrument but so far I'm very satisfied and would recommend anyone seeking a quality instrument to feel confident allowing Niam to help you out.
