Well-kept old grave-yard surrounded by the living.... Also some war graves of the Commonwealth: of 7 British soldiers of the 1st Airborne Division who were involved in Operation Market Garden during autumn 1944 (referred to as the Battle on Arnhem). The bodies of these soldiers were found in 1944 in the floodplains near Wijk bij Duurstede. The text on the plaque near the entrance: On this cemetery rest the remains of 7 British Soldiers of the 1st Airborne Division. In the autumn of 1944 they gave their lives to liberate the Netherlands from nazi tyranny. Ronald Ditch Harold Godwin John Walters Gordon Wright 3 unknown Airborne soldiers. We will remember them
