Mediation is a method of Alternative Dispute Resolution which involves the parties to the dispute sitting down with a neutral third party - the mediator - and work together to find a solution to the problem. It is quick, economical and effective. Quick because mediation can be arranged at very short notice. Economical because it avoids the high legal costs associated with going to trial. Effective because 80 - 85% of mediations end with a settlement that is acceptable to all parties. In mediation the parties themselves retain ownership of the process and are able to control what happens. Hampshire Mediation uses the technique of facilitative mediation. Key to this approach is ensuring that each participant has the time and the space to express themselves and be understood. This helps people understand each other and work together to explore all aspects of a dispute. Our mediators do not evaluate the strengths of a particular argument and never seek to impose their own solution or that of one of the parties. All our mediators are fully trained by a recognised training body.
