This glaring gender gap in tech means businesses and inclusive products aren’t doing as well as they could be — across all industries. Findings from an academic research study we conducted in 2017 on the lack of female participation in IT/ CS studies and careers revealed that support system and students’ perception of the IT/CS field play a role in the diminishing numbers of girls and women pursuing careers in the technology industry. Thus, we are working to close this gap in tech by empowering minorities to explore careers in computing. Our Coding bootcamp series provides a student-centric curriculum that allows participants to learn and explore computing skills. ICT Empower operates on the following values to achieve its mission of effecting profound change on individual: 1. Empower 2. Inspire 3. Motivate ICT Empower is working to create the next generation of tech innovators who will disrupt the technology sectors in Namibia and the world at large. Thus, supporting this initiative is an investment in the future of the technology and business sectors, as well as improvement of the short and long-term employability of youth.
