Filling House and garden was the setting for the 1980's TV series Dynasty. It a beautiful estate 30 miles south of San Francisco. The home is open for tours of the first floor and displays the opulence of living a century ago. The gardens are 16 acres of beautiful flowers, blooming trees, and manicured shrubs.

Short: Holiday evenings in late November is a great way to enjoy the autumn colors and a fall sunset before indulging in the decorated garden. Expect to stay for 70 - 90 minutes. Long: As of late November, the house interior is still open. If you enjoy the aesthetics of old Americana, this is a great place to look into the past. However, if you come even 15 minutes past 4PM for the evening round, expect a 30 - 45 minute queue. Late November is an ideal time to see the brilliant auburn of fall. The sun sets around 4:30 - 5:00PM, so there's slightly less than an hour for you to enjoy the gardens in the light of the sunset. As it's the evening, the trail will be closed off, but in its place, you can enjoy the garden lot up in various decorations. There are fire pits and two wine bars for groups who want to lounge. A warm cinnamon whiskey sour is a good way to start the night. If you're trying to avoid the crowds, I'd recommend coming around 6PM. Enough of the initial visitors will have left by then and you'll be enjoy certain spots by yourself. Of course, you also forfeit the sunset and some of the autumn colors in contrast to the greenery.

Outstandingly beautiful. Make sure you pre-order your tickets, it can be hard to get tickets the day of. Lots of families and kids running around, feels very happy. Grounds plus house will take around 3 hours to walk. Worth the admission! We love this place

Right now is the best time of the year to make a visit as magnolias are full bloom and grounds are kept beautiful with daffodils, tulips, hyacinths and lot more. Estate is also open to tour and you'll find it interesting that you discovered small part of the history preserved all the way to tiny cans in kitchen. Pictures don't do justice. Go visit! Entrance is now 25 per person.

I loved visiting the gardens and trails of Filoli recently with all of the spring flowers in bloom. There was social distancing and masks required and my partner and I chose not to go in to the house, though it has re-opened with distancing and a limited number of people at a time inside. The field of daffodils was so huge it made us feel like we were viewing a painting come to life. The orchards give way to camellias of all sorts on patios and then fields give way to formal pool and statuary. There was a bonsai exhibit and reflecting pool, potted plants and trees and shrubs of all manner. Everything was perfectly cared for and abundant. The short, 1 mile estate trail walk meandered through oak, redwood, pine and madrone as well as other tree wooded areas. We passed a nature center and did pop in on that to view the displayed animal and bird and reptile species in glass cases. There was a tractor and hayfield area and large meadow as well as redwood circle with a natural wood bench that felt secluded. Definitely a place to go multiple times throughout a year to see the plantings and trees change as different items bloom or fade. Well worth the visit. We spent a couple of hours there.
