The South West Surgical Training Network Community Interest Company (formerly South West Laparoscopic Consortium) was formed in 2008 as a collaboration between a small number of expert surgeons in South West England with the aim of delivering the national training programme for laparoscopic colorectal surgery (lapco) in this region. Since 2010, the SWSTN has also been delivering specialist surgical training courses for colorectal surgeons enrolled in the LoReC training programme, aimed at improving outcomes for patients with low rectal cancers. Through the development and delivery of these national training programmes, the SWSTN team has fostered strong collaborative relationships with a number of subject experts to provide high quality training events at a range of locations. In addition to colorectal surgey, our course portfolio now includes general, bariatric, upper GI and hepatobiliary surgery and we are currently working on courses for urology and gynaecoogy. Many of our events are aimed at the whole multi-professional team involved in the pre- inter and post-operative care of specific patient groups. The SWSTN is also proud to involve representatives of patient support groups in many of our training courses - bring the vital patient perspectives to our delegates.
