Getting back into martial arts after 10 years of sedentary work, have been here for two months (background: Tae Kwan Do, Kyokushin Karate). I love everything about this gym: The instructor (a Thai ex-pro fighter) is nice and pushes you to do your best, to give just a little more, just like a personal trainer. There's the freedom to come and go anytime the gym is open (no \class hours/slots\, which threw me off when I looked into joining: You can come and train any time the gym is open for as long as you want); a lot of Muay Thai is self-driven training and practice, but the trainer is always there to help you on pads or 1 on 1 training when you want. The gym is spartan: No glitz or flash, just solid, functional equipment. The other members range from mid-teens to 40s (no one is \too old\ to train, and everyone engages at their own pace). There are fighting pros here mixed with the non-pro trainees, but they have no \attitude\; everyone is very welcoming. While Muay Thai is a fighting sport, a lot of effort is spent to make sure training is safe and to safeguard against injury. Everyone is fueled by a healthy and friendly family-like competition, and no one is overly violent or mean (apparently this is a concern at MT gyms; but it doesn't happen here). There are men and women fighters here, there is no sexism at this gym. If you favor gyms that have that eighborhood gym\ look to them, this is the place for you. The cost vs the open times (you can come whenever you want, train as long as you like, and have unlimited 1 on 1 access with a professional Thai ex-fighter trainer) make this dojo/gym the best money value for a gym (sports or fighting/dojo) I've ever been to. Note: I'm writing this in English, but I am fluent in Japanese (N2/N1). The manager (Japanese) and Trainer (Thai) speak Japanese but no English. If you have a solid grasp of Japanese and can follow training instructions, you'll be welcome here.
