We contacted this company to assess damp in our house. The inspector was reliable, pleasant and assessed the damp properly. The report was fine however the finance arrangements were far from clear, In large type it seemed the deposit would be 10%, understandable. However when the contract came through the deposit demand had increased to 30% with an expectation that a further 60% (90% total) would be payable before the work would even begin. This is a very unusual business model (paying for work before it is done!). Prospective customers need to be aware of this. We found it far too risky a proposition so did not proceed after the company refused to do the work for the initial 10% deposit and the rest payable within 5 days of works completion.

After noticing damp areas and black mould in our home, we called Allerton in to complete a survey and advise. They discovered a significant damp problem meaning the entire ground floor would need to be ripped out and rebuilt. Quite a shock! However the team talked us through the process extensively, costed comparatively and adapted the quotes to accommodate additional building works required. Initially we were told that the job would take 10-12 weeks, they completed in 8! The team were extremely hard working, skilled and professional. In particular, our project manager Ben was knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, always happy to help and ready to explain when we had queries and questions. We felt safe in their hands. We would definitely recommend Allerton not only for their extensive damp services but for the building side of the business as well. The only slightly negative comments would be some early communication was a little sluggish however once things were confirmed we got the answers we were looking for. We also felt that the payment terms were a little steep asking for a lot more of the payment up front than we were expecting, however we spoke with them and satisfactory terms were agreed by both sides. This wouldn’t put us off using them again by any means. Very very happy with the final outcome, great job!

I was initially pleased with the company and the work that was done. However the after sales service was very poor. Damp appeared on a newly installed window sill so months later I am still unable to paint it. Emails have been ignored and when they eventually replied they told me it was nothing to do with them. I do not believe this as the damp was not there previously. They are too busy to come and look at the problem and I was told they would not be in my area for over a month (despite their office only being a mile away). Shocking service. I will not be using them again. EDIT - Disappointing response from the business. I am still waiting for a reply to my email dated 11th December. I have now attached two of the pictures which were emailed to them about 3 weeks ago as I wanted them to come out to help me find a cause for this damp which appeared after they put my new windowsill in. i did not ever suggest it was rising damp. I just want someone to come and look at this problem within a reasonable timescale and not just ignore my requests.
