It's a beautiful cafe to sit in or outside the staff are lovely and always remember you and what you like to have. They are also dog friendly and even let them inside

Disappointing. We found the cafe to be very cold inside, which isn't good on a miserable cold winter's day. The pot of tea for two arrived in a glass jug half filled with hot (but not boiling) water. The two not very strong tea bags were suspended inside a filter more designed for ground coffee or tea leaves and because there wasn't enough water in the pot they were struggling to dispense their flavour (if they actually had any). We did ask for more water and got this, but it's a pity the pot arrived half full in the first place. The filling in my partners panini was scarce, a quarter of it contained no filling at all. Cutlery did not arrive with the meal and we had to ask for this. We also had to ask for salt and pepper and had to get this ourselves from the bottom end of the cafe. It appears the cafe only has one salt and pepper set to share round! The seating arrangements are strange, the benches are too high for the tables making this an uncomfortable position in which to eat. The cafe could benefit from putting a menu on each table rather than people having to stand and stare at a board high up at the side of the counter and home made soup would be a good addition to the menu too. Its unclear whether this is a sandwich shop or a cafe to be honest. On a positive note, the premises appeared to be very clean and it's dog friendly too. All in all disappointing though so we probably won't be going back.

First time at Bean on the Green and found it welcoming. Food was well presented and very tasty. Service was prompt and polite. Art work on the walls for sale where not to my taste it was very interesting.

Best pizza this side of Italy and I'm not kidding. Hand stretched stone baked pizza with just the right amount of cheese. Recommend the sourdough cinnamon donuts and the chocolate sauce that comes with them!

Wonderfully friendly welcome from a beaming Bea, I liked this place from the off. Lovely to get such a genuinely warm welcome from someone who is not only definitely in the right job, but who also excels at what they do. Brilliant customer relations, happy, professional, considerate and caring, flexible, obliging AND who serves a mighty fine coffee! It was delicious! I asked for the \healthy brekkie\ from the menu consisting of scrambled eggs, avocado, grilled halloumi, bacon and rye toast but requested if poss no bacon. I was offered a replacement for the piggy wiglet straightaway without needing to ask. I was proffered mushrooms instead which I happily accepted - well, one would, wouldn't one?! How refreshing to be offered an alternative unprompted, that's looking after your customers, that is. Was excellent food at a very good price. Good wide choice available on menu, including children's options. There are veggie choices and also gluten free cakes. I was too full to sample a cake on this visit, so that's another very good reason to return! There is outdoor seating too. Also plenty of sockets (as apparently it used to be a hairdressers) thus making it a useful venue if you wanted to work on a laptop - the owner, Bea, did say this was ok. Very clean and it also has a licence and is open late Thursdays and Fridays. I think the folk of Heworth have a real treasure on their doorstep with this quite delightful coffee shop, the true asset of which are the staff. Splendid, high calibre service rendering this one of the easiest 5 ratings. Thank you so much for having me.
