Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffles with Streaky Bacon and Maple Syrup!!! If you haven’t been to Fancy Hanks you’re missing out, BIG TIME! We ordered their famous Chicken & Waffles, which was so good, I ordered a second portion to take away. Food arrived quickly too I highly recommend booking a table to experience great food!

Delicious southern American comfort food! Fantastic service! Callum was brilliant and looked after us the whole time. Food came out quickly, very delicious and filling. Highly recommend the double cheese burger and add some bacon to make it extra delicious! Or the slow braised rib for some tender meat. Pop in for lunch or dinner and have a great experience.

This was one of the BEST MEALS I have had in as long as I can remember! Best BBQ in the UK, and rivals the best I have had anywhere (including Memphis, Tennessee, Alabama, or Texas!) We just spent 4 nights in York and tried everything from high end to street eats. Our last night in the city, we ate at Fancy Hank's and debated changing our departure time just so we could sneak in one more meal there!! It was truly THAT good. I am from the states and love BBQ more than most other foods... not only was this the best BBQ I have had in the UK, but I would say it rivaled even the best BBQ I have had in the US South! Everything felt perfectly aligned to match their \southern comfort\ ethos. The hospitality was friendly and warm (shout out to Callum working through shin splints), the art and music were soulful, the portions were generous, and every single thing we tried was EXCEPTIONAL. I had the slow braised short rib and have never seen meat roll off the bone like this. The shrimp small plate was unspeakably well-prepared as well. And their BBQ sauce I would drink with a straw! 10/10 in every way.

I would leave more than 5 stars if I could. This is hands down the BEST RESTAURANT IN YORK that we've tried (and we've tried quite a few) - in fact the best restaurant I've been to anywhere in a very long time. We were met by some of the friendliest staff we've encountered. Thank you particularly to Callum who served us for such a great experience. The food is absolutely outstanding - I honestly couldn't fault a single thing. My partner and I had the shrimp and the pork belly to start, then the chicken & waffle and the short rib for a main with a side of mac & cheese. To finish it off we had the Key lime pie. The buttermilk fried shrimp and chicken were perfect - juicy, tender and full of flavour with a light crispy batter, and not at all greasy. The braised short rib quite literally fell off the bone it was so succulent. Even after our meal, with very full happy bellies, our mouths were watering watching other people's burgers and foods arrived! I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the idea that you have to try Fancy Hank's. Oh and one final note - don't forget to try the cocktails, you won't be disappointed.
